British Film Institute Archive Search – Union Search

In early 2010 with and edict to deliver it’s vast film archive information on-line the British Film Institute commissioned EMC consulting to build a searchable archive and populate it with date from separate off-line archives.

Working as a software engineer within an EMC scrum team, Richard helped deliver a Java application which utilised Amazon’ EC2 infrastructure to host solution.

The application allows archives to submit film information via XML and CSV, custom transformations written in Java and and executed via Spring Batch were persisted to a MySQL database and then indexed using Lucene. In addition a web-based interfaces were provided to both administer, search and provide federated customisable search engines for individual archives.
